Please note this is a new revised version for 2013.
Set on Earth, not date specific but after much of the polar ice caps have melted. Sea levels have risen to such an extent that only certain areas, over an elevation of 6000ft remain inhabitable, one such land mass is Malvena. This civilisation is split into quadrants called Phoenix Place, Hells Haven, Drakes Dungeon and the Old Orangery, all of which surround the archetypical hub of administration, the domed glassed biosphere that is Sphere City. The City is governed by the Annex who, amongst other things, dictate the work ethic of all born within the dome and censor any and all information passed to its residents. All citizens of Malvena possess a genetic abnormality, known as Fortitude, due to this most do not survive past the age of 40 years.
Ashton Boxall Jnr has been groomed for greatness within the Annex, by his father and grandfather, the Boxall family lineage had assured his success. However, at a final test his destiny is somewhat shattered as he is uncovered by the Inquisitor, Vincent Meads, as an undesirable, a term used for those of a non hetrosexual nature, something that is not tolerated within the administration no matter who that person may be. He is sentenced to life in the penal quadrant Hells Haven. His coming to terms with his new situation and befriended by other inmates, he escapes, to the lesser, more prohibited, areas of Malvena and unearths many older civilisations thought to be extinct and the interaction between him, his fellow escapees and those they encounter, places them into a series of diverse and exhilarating situations, all the time being pursued by Meads.
Their persistent struggles, betrayals, ideals and complexities metamorphasize into the second book of this futuristic trilogy called SphereCity - The Edge of Civilisation."

I really had high hopes for this book. Being a sci-fi fan, the premise really appealed to me. Unfortunately, I found the plot development a little hard to believe. The editing was not good...some sentences didn't make sense to me at all. I couldn't relate to any of the MC's. Sounds pretty bad, huh? Some parts the book kept my interest, though, so I feel I am being generous in rating the book 3 stars. I initally planned on buying Sphere City Part 2", but unfortunately I'll have to take a pass. To the author I'd like to say "Keep writing", but edit your work and don't have implausable character changes for your MC's. Were Ashton and Skin, and Charley and her fiance so fickle that they fall out of love so easily?Product details
